Curriculum
This term, Attenborough class’ topic focus is ‘Where in the World?’. This unit will be steered by Katherine Rundell’s novel ‘The Explorer’ which focuses on the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. From this, the children will be writing their own adventure stories with a focus on setting description and developing our writing at length. In Geography we will be focussing in depth on the physical and human features of Italy as a European country study, using different types of maps to develop map skills. We will then use what we have learnt to create a comparison with the UK. Towards the end of the term we are going to use everything we have learned about these locations to make books with moving parts.

Useful Information
Spelling homework is set on a Friday, to be tested the following Friday, as is maths homework which can be accessed via Seesaw. Times tables are worked on regularly during the week at school, and we would encourage lots of practise at home, ideally through use of Times Tables Rockstars and the multiplication check practise site below. Fluency and speed of recollection of multiplication and division facts are absolutely key to mathematical success throughout Key Stage 2.
We expect that reading records are brought into school every day - Mrs Blackwell/ Mrs Murphy will check these each morning for messages and to check that children are changing their own books when needed, either from the library at school or from home. The children will have weekly lessons focussing on reading comprehension skills, with those who need extra support reading frequently 1:1 with an adult.
