Behaviour
In September 2022 we have changed our approach to behaviour and have adopted a Theraputic Thinking approach.
The therapeutic approach is in-line with our whole school vision: To build a community of caring, resilient learners. It also supports our first mission: We are inclusive so we develop our self-belief.
This Therapeutic Behaviour Policy is what staff at Rotherfield do for children, and not what we do to children. It aims to support the majority of children in our school. It is underpinned by the model of inclusion circles, with an understanding that some children may require strategies that differentiate from the policy, such as a Risk Reduction Plan. Such plans are created, implemented and reviewed with the support of parents and all staff.
“You can’t teach children to behave better by making them feel worse. When children feel better, they behave better.” Pam Leo
Our therapeutic approach to behaviour management has been inspired by Therapeutic Thinking training delivered through ESBAS in 2022. Therapeutic Thinking is a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour.
