Computing
Vision: intent, implementation & impact
At Rotherfield School, our intent is for all our pupils to develop their computational thinking skills and creativity. At the core of the Computing curriculum lies computer science. Our children are able to build on their knowledge using information technology skills and by becoming computer literate. The use of Purple Mash across the school underpins the curriculum needs for all of these areas.
We will implement our vision through:
- The use of Purple Mash – a clear and effective scheme of work that provides coverage in line with the National Curriculum.
- Access to the hardware (computers, tablets, programmable equipment) and software that they need to develop knowledge and skills of digital systems and their applications
- Teaching and learning that facilitates progression across all key stages within the strands of digital literacy, information technology and computer science.
- Opportunities to explore and respond to key issues such as digital communication, cyber-bullying, online safety, security, plagiarism and social media.
- Exploring the key issues associated with online safety.
Impact:
The impact of the vision will be:
- Understanding the balance between using technology and a maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Children who are confident in the use of technology and able to accomplish a wide variety of goals, both at home and in school.
- Children who will have a secure and comprehensive knowledge of the implications of technology and digital systems. This is important in a society where technologies and trends are rapidly evolving.
- Children who will be able to apply the British values of democracy, tolerance, mutual respect, rule of law and liberty when using digital systems.
