Geography
Vision: intent, implementation & impact
At Rotherfield School, our intent is to provide opportunities in which to develop children’s curiosity and fascination of the world and its people, so that they can develop contextual knowledge of globally significant places and understand both physical and human geographical features and how they change over time.
We will implement our vision through a knowledge-based teaching approach by following medium terms plans which have been created from the progression of skills maps which will ensure children develop a broad and deep understanding of the four areas of Geography outlined in the National Curriculum. Through the use of supplementary resources, we will increase geographical vocabulary knowledge and map skills by offering a range of opportunities for investigating different places and geographic processes.
Impact:
The impact of the vision will be:
- Confidence using geographical vocabulary.
- Confidence using map skills in fieldwork.
- Children will have an understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes.
- Children develop a positive commitment to the environment.
- Ability to make relevant cross-curricular links.
