History
Vision: intent, implementation & impact
At Rotherfield School, our intent is to ensure all pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain and the wider world’s past events and people throughout history, from ancient to modern times. Children will develop historical skills and concepts which are transferable to whatever period of history they study. Through this, children will learn how civilisations are interconnected.
We will implement our vision through carefully planned and structured medium-term plans, with the aid of supplementary resources. Current learning or topics the children undertake are linked to previous learning and have strong cross-curricular links to both English and Science. Topics are informed by the national curriculum and are sensitive to children’s interests, as well as the context of the local area.
Impact:
The impact of the vision will be:
- Ability to make relevant cross-curricular links.
- Children will acquire an understanding of time, events, and people throughout history.
- Children will ask perceptive questions, think critically and weigh evidence.
- Children will begin to understand the complexity and diversity between different groups as well as the challenges of their time.
