St Andrew's Day
On Wednesday the whole school learned about the Patron Saint of Scotland, as it was St Andrew’s day.
In the afternoon, each class learned more about Scotland and St Andrew, who was the patron saint of fishermen, fishmongers and ropemakers, and did an activity in class. The School Art Council spoke to members of each class and reported back to say how much the children enjoyed their lessons and that it was lovely to see so many different activities going on in school.
The children in reception class were drawing people and they liked it very much. Emba and Lily.
Throughout the afternoon, Year 1 showed different classes their shiny silver fish as they were so proud of their creations.
In Year 2 they learned a Scottish dance and in Year 3, they found out about Scottish food and made their own menus. Freddie Rose said that he enjoyed this and made sure that his included shortbread and porridge!
Year 4 made Gaelic symbols with yarn which was fun. Year 5 wrote poetry and Emilio found it mesmerising and really enjoyed learning some Scottish words, which he put into his poem. Year 6 design their own tartan and created fact files, booklets or used ICT to make comic strips about St Andrew’s life.
Thank you to the Art Council for all their help, and all the teachers for making it such a great day.
