PE

Vision: intent, implementation & impact

At Rotherfield School, our intent is to provide all children with opportunities to partake in a wide range of sports and have opportunities to engage in regular physical activity. We aim to instil an interest in sport and physical activity that will stay with them long after they have left us at Rotherfield Primary School. We are dedicated to ensuring that PE and further sporting opportunities are accessible to all pupils and that all children receive at least 2 hours of active and engaging PE lessons per week. At Rotherfield Primary School, we also strive to give children the opportunity to engage with competitive sport in a variety of competitions within our local schools cluster or by representing the school at local community events. We aim to provide children with the understanding of what healthy competition feels like, what it is like to be part of a team and to be able to win and lose with equal grace. We place great value in the role of team games and sport in developing children’s social, emotional, communication and organisation skills and see this as a vital steppingstone to helping children develop into well-rounded, balanced individuals who are set for life’s challenges.

We will implement our vision through continuing to use the Sport Premium Grant to provide a rich and well-resourced PE curriculum. Each child will receive at least two hours of dedicated PE teaching per week as well as further opportunities for physical development and activity at break and lunchtimes and though after school clubs with a sporting focus. We will develop our partnership with the Sussex School Games cluster through Beacon College and our aim is to partake in an increased amount of competitive sporting opportunities within our cluster.

Impact:

The impact of the vision will be:

  •    Increased engagement in competitive sports opportunities.
  •    Improved attitude and engagement towards physical activity and sport across the school
  •    Maintaining the Gold Primary School Games Mark.
