PSHE

Vision: intent, implementation & impact

At Rotherfield School, our intent is to develop pupils social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness as well as their emotional and mental well-being through a carefully planned and delivered PSHE curriculum. We build on statutory content already outlined in the national curriculum and on statutory guidance and follow the PSHE association scheme. Our aims are to enable pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future and to help our children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work. PSHE at Rotherfield will ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to access a rich set of experiences that integrate diversity, inclusion, SMSC and British values.

We will implement our vision through the use of PSHE association long term plans and supplementing resources that will be used when appropriate. PSHE will be taught each term with three core themes taught and revisited in each year group. These core themes are developing good relationships and respecting the differences between people, living in the wider world and being a responsible person and developing a healthy, safe lifestyle. The programme of study will provide a spiral curriculum to develop knowledge, skills and attributes, where prior learning is revisited, reinforced and extended year on year. Learning will be differentiated where necessary to ensure that all pupils are successful and formative assessment will take place which will enable teachers to identify children who need to be moved forward in their learning or those who require additional support. Feedback will be given in accordance to our feedback policy.

The impact of the vision will be:

  •    Children will have a secure understanding of how to keep themselves safe and healthy both mentally and physically.
  •    Children will develop skills that enable them to manage their relationships in school and in the wider community and to respect and  celebrate differences.
  •    Children will leave Rotherfield equipped for the next stage in their lives and education and with the necessary skills to succeed in the  future.
