Vision: intent, implementation & impact
At Rotherfield School, our intent is to provide learning opportunities for all children to discover and explore a wide range of world religions and other beliefs. We would like children to be respectful and open minded towards the beliefs of others, as well as developing a sense of identity and belonging for themselves. It plays an important role alongside other curriculum areas such as PSHE, to promote social awareness and understanding amongst all children in the school regardless of age or ability.
We will implement our vision through discrete RE lessons, although links will be made to other areas of learning where appropriate. We will use the new East Sussex Agreed Syllabus as a guide to our RE curriculum. Children will have the opportunity to visit a range of places of worships, take part in different faith festivals and meet people with different faith views or none. They will also have the opportunity to debate, discuss and share views in a safe environment, learning to respect other people’s different views and ideas.
The impact of the vision will be for the children to:
- Confidently talk about a range of religions and identify the unique qualities of each one.
- Understand the importance of faith to people and the impact it has on their lives
- Show respect and understanding to people with different faiths to their own
- Make links between their lives, those in their communities and the wider world
