Choir News

December 2023: The choir had a fantastic time singing at the One Voice event at Glyndebourne opera house. Rotherfield choir were joined by three other schools. Together, we sang old and new Christmas songs from around the world and were accompanied by instrumentalists and members of the Glyndebourne chorus. The children not only learnt to sign some of the pieces in Makaton, but also sang in both English and Spanish. We were treated to the Glyndebourne Chorus singing, amongst other things, The Hallelujah Chorus. A magical start to our Christmas.
September 2023: Our choir welcomed Andrew, a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus, and his colleague Claire to Rotherfield School. Andrew led a workshop for the choir to help the choir prepare for the One Voice Christmas performance at Glyndebourne. Andrew was very complimentary about the children's singing and phrasing. He taught us some techniques, such as correct posture and breathing, to further improve our performance. Andrew also sang Danny Boy during our whole school assembly and answered questions about singing and his operatic career. He wanted to encourage children to keep singing for fun throughout their lives.
Glyndebourne offers free workshops and performance opportunities for children aged 9 and above.
