I am immensely proud to welcome you to Rotherfield Primary School, East Sussex. I hope that our website will give you a sense of what a warm and welcoming school we are.
Rotherfield Primary School’s strengths lie in its caring and nurturing environment, dedicated staff and governors, and above all the determination of our pupils to succeed. We are currently celebrating our fantastic end of year results from July 2015, 100% of our Year 6 pupils left working at expected level, compared to a national average of 80%. Our Reception, phonics and Year 2 results were equally fantastic.
Over the last four years we have been exploring the option of expanding to become a one-form entry school. Thanks to the generosity of a local charity, during the summer of 2015 we embarked on an ambitious building project, which will allow us to open a seventh classroom in September 2016. Our school originally opened in 1867, so it is quite fitting that as we celebrate our 140th anniversary, we will also be celebrating our expansion.
We are a friendly, caring school with high expectations for all our pupils. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Our staff work hard to provide a safe, calm and stimulating environment where good behaviour and mutual respect is modelled by everyone and where everyone is valued.
We encourage teachers to take learning outside the classroom and make good use of the surrounding countryside. Each class also participates in a number of trips to enhance their theme work; these trips vary from historical, natural and industrial locations. Our Year 6 children spend a week in France, learning about World War II, practising their French in the local markets and enjoying the French cuisine.
We see our pupils’ time at Rotherfield Primary School as the educational foundation of their lifelong learning journey, and we want them to leave us as confident and enthusiastic learners. We also want our pupils to remember their time at Rotherfield with great fondness, with memories of life‐enriching experiences and enduring relationships.
